Recognizing Headaches
By Cepat Sehat|13 April 2024|Penyakit
Everyone has experienced headaches, both children and adults. When a headache occurs, it will interfere with the sufferer's activities. Maybe a headache sounds trivial, because in general headaches will subside immediately after taking painkillers. However, headaches can also be a warning to our body that there is a disease in the body that is occurring and requires further treatment.
Headache is pain or tenderness in the head, which can appear gradually or suddenly. Complaints of headaches can range from the mildest to severe headaches that feel like your head is about to explode and can last for days. Pain can appear on one side of the head, be centered at a certain point, or spread throughout the head. The pain that arises can be sharp, stabbing pain, dull pain, constant pain, or pain accompanied by a throbbing sensation.
Causes of Headaches
The causes of headaches are divided into two, namely:
- Primary headaches, namely headaches that are not related to a particular disease. Primary headaches can also be caused by bad daily behavior, such as lack of sleep, late eating, or inappropriate food choices.
- Secondary headaches, namely headaches that occur due to certain diseases that activate pain nerves in the head.
Types of Headache
1. Migraine
The criteria for migraine are pain on one side of the head and throbbing. Migraines can also make people feel uncomfortable to the point that it is difficult to carry out activities as usual, so sufferers choose to sleep to get rid of the headache they are experiencing.
2. Cluster Headaches
Cluster headaches are pain that usually occurs in the area around the eyes and can occur repeatedly in certain cycles. The pain can last for weeks or months, then disappear for several months or years before appearing again.
3. Tension Headaches (TTH)
Tension headaches are often described as having a rope tied tightly around the head. Apart from the head, pain can occur in the neck and behind the eyes, and can last from minutes to weeks. Tension headaches are the most common type of headache. Sufferers can find it uncomfortable and tiring, but most people can carry on with these headaches.
Tips for Overcoming Headaches
To treat primary headaches, there are several things you can do, namely:
- Living a Healthy Lifestyle
- Eat balanced and regular meals
- Regular exercise
- Drink lots of water
- Get enough sleep
- Avoid smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages
- Manage stress levels well
- Take pain medication
If you experience ongoing headaches, immediately consult your doctor at the nearest health facility or via telemedicine to get faster and more appropriate treatment.
